Ahhh Jodeci….the quintessential thug boy band that could blow. Something about their voices (K-Ci sounds SO MUCH like Bobby Womack to me) and their strange thugged out look (so 90′s…SO Puffy) And even though all of them (especially K-Ci) looked like crackheads that weighed approximately 85 pounds soaking wet, we still LOVED their music.
I used to work as a bartender back in the day, I managed the bar at this little restaurant in Beverly Hills called Cafe Noa Noa (which is now Crustacean). The GM there LOVED the “Forever My Lady” CD. He requested it on the regular and used to sing at the top of his lungs. Problem was, poor thing couldn’t sing to save his life. It was funny though, we loved it anyway, even with his wounded animal singing, we found ourselves doing the same thing.
Now The boys from Jodeci were another story, they could sing but boy were they messed up. It was the equivalent of, “Oh bless their hearts…they look so sick….” but we still bumped every one of their songs on the regular. I have at least four Jodeci songs are on my slow jams playlist, Come And Talk To Me, Forever My Lady, Alone and my personal favorite Stay.
