Here we go again….another wounded celebrity blaming their “pain” on why they acted inappropriately. Spare me Kanye. It is my opinion that if you are ever lucky enough to be in a position where you are famous enough that people care about what you do on a daily basis…it is your responsibility to set an example. I understand that he is in pain, that is indisputable. However, he needs to go away…and I mean go away for a long long time. Now, what I mean by go away is….go and take time to grieve over the tragic loss of his mother….go away and get some therapy, get some Jesus…get something!
The fact that he felt it appropriate to walk the Red Carpet swigging from a bottle with his near naked “girlfriend” Amber Rose and then run up on stage while another artist was accepting an award is beyond reprehensible. YES…Taylor Swift won, yes it was a country song and so what? The poor child looked stunned (what was she supposed to do?) Before she knew it Kanye jumped up on the stage, snatched the mic out of her hands and uttered the now infamous, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you and imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best music videos of all time!!“ The audience was stunned, Beyonce looked horrified and the media storm ball started rolling. Maybe Beyonce did deserve to win in that category, maybe her video was better, but damn…doesn’t Beyonce have enough awards?? Backlash was SWIFT and severe… P!nk called him a “toolbox“, Katy Perry said it was like he “stepped on a kitten“ (they were also nominated in the same category as Taylor Swift and Beyonce). I’m not subscribing to the “I Hate Kanye” club…In fact I love his music and think he is VERY talented. I just think what he did was shitty. Of course there have been sites popping up all over the net devoted to this debacle the most hilarious being Imma Let You Finish. A site devoted to grabbing pics of events and photoshopping Kanye into them as he interrupts whatever they are doing. My favorite was, “Yo Santa, I’m really happy for you and imma let you finish but the Tooth Fairy is the best mythical figure of all time!!”
I think that Mr. West needs some perspective…put the shoe on the other foot. If ANYONE did that to him on stage….If someone actually bum rushed the stage while he was making an acceptance speech, what do you think he would have done? Damn right…he would have lost his mind. So the only thing I have to say to Kanye is take a verse from the often overlooked Ethic of Reciprocity, “do unto others as you would expect they should do unto you”
