I like to think I am pretty eclectic, especially with my music and movie choices. I was born in the late sixties and raised in the 70′s and 80′s so that colors my choices a bit (how could it not?) But I still like some of the newer ones. This list is more or less my artistic version, meaning movies that I own and watch regularly. Granted, my sense of humor is a bit twisted, I definitely was allowed to watch certain shows/movies that I probably shouldn’t have at a young age (Hello? SNL in the late 70′s and 80′s were filled with sexual and drug related references….LOL). So hats off to my parents for trusting me to ingest what I saw and not grow up to be a complete weirdo, manic, nutso person. Okay so here is the list in random order…
- Scarface – something about Al Pacino saying, “I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card, I gonna carve him up real nice.” gets me every time. That and him telling Michelle Pfeiffer that her “womb is polluted”.
- Mahogany – If you have never seen this Diana Ross gem, you must. Very 70′s, very glam, awesome clothes. I was 8 when it came out but I got to watch it with painted nails, a wig and a”lounge” outfit.
- The Jerk – Steve Martin as the adopted son of a black family from Mississippi. He moves to St. Louis, makes a strange invention that makes him incredibly wealthy and then he loses it all because he is a dumbass. Hilarious.
- Goodfellas – Scorcese at his finest…one of the best gangster films ever made.
- The Shawshank Redemption – I can’t tell you how many times I have seen this movie. I cry everytime at the end, no matter what.
- Pulp Fiction – Sam Jackson stole this movie…especially for randomly quoting scripture while performing his job as a contract killer, but stellar performances all around.
- Star Wars – I am still amazed everytime I see this movie. I am a sucker for sci-fi and this is one of the best. The special effects are phenmonenal when you think about what little technology we had back then. This movie pretty much paved the way for all sci-fi/action movies.
- Fight Club – Brilliantly done, I had no idea that Brad was a figment of his imagination until the end.
- Some Like It Hot – My favorite Marilyn Monroe movie . Jack Lemmon & Tony Curtis were gold here…
- Gladiator – One word, amazing. Russell Crowe really got my attention as an actor with this one. I have seen it 12 times.
