Recently, I traveled to Las Vegas for a conference and was lucky enough to be staying in the Manadalay Bay hotel & Casino. Let me tell you, I don’t think I will ever stay anyplace else while in Vegas. The rooms are inexpensive, the service was impeccable, the food was amazing the bed was HEAVENLY. My favorite part though was the giant bathtub, my last night there I took a hot bubble bath, a luxury I don’t get that often (simply because it’s never quiet!!). I enjoy hotels in general for purely selfish reasons really. One of them being I enjoy coming back to a clean fresh room everyday. Where else but in the world of business travel can you have people clean up after you when you have been slovenly?? You even get a fresh soap after you take a shower….how bad can that be??
On the day I arrived, I went to the spa first thing and sat in the yummy, gorgeous whirlpool for a while and stretched out……then went to have a bite with Shannon. That night we went out to dinner and had a blast, we met new people, had yummy food, networked and had a generally glorious time. Then it was sleep, conference and do it all over again. We went to fun places to that are “Only In Vegas” type places. Like the bar Minus 5 (It’s -5 degrees inside) they give you Ugg boots, a coat and some gloves, all the drinks are served in glasses made of thick ice. Where else can you do that other than Vegas? You gotta do it….I must admit though, I had a headache after I was in there for an hour, but I got the fur coat upgrade (worth EVERY penny) and I was comfortable for longer than others (some left after 30 min…lol).
I enjoy going on business trips, if only just to relax and unwind away from the pressures of mommyhood. When you travel for business, you get to be kid free and to a single mom like me that is heaven. I can get up when I want (within reason), go to bed when I want, take an uninterrupted bath, go to the spa, stay out late, not clean my room and not pick up my phone if I don’t want to. Like my friend Jack says about business trips, “You get to be a rockstar for a week while your children are home safe.” Boy do you ever….
